Below are my predictions for the standings for 2002 based on my hitter and pitcher projections. Obviously when the difference between teams is less than 3 or 4 games, there's obviously very good chances that either team could finish ahead of the other. The only teams that look like they are way out of it appear to be: Devil Rays, Orioles, Tigers and Pirates.
Boston Red Sox 96-66 New York Yankees 96-66 Toronto Blue Jays 77-85 Tampa Bay Devil Rays 69-93 Baltimore Orioles 68-94
Chicago White Sox 86-76 Cleveland Indians 80-82 Minnesota Twins 76-86 Kansas City Royals 73-89 Detroit Tigers 71-91
Texas Rangers 90-72 Oakland A's 88-74 Seattle Mariners 87-75 Anaheim Angels 78-84
New York Mets 85-77 Atlanta Braves 84-78 Philadelphia Phillies 81-81 Florida Marlins 80-82 Montreal Expos 75-87
Houston Astros 89-73 St. Louis Cardinals 83-79 Chicago Cubs 83-79 Cincinnati Reds 77-85 Milwaukee Brewers 76-86 Pittsburgh Pirates 72-90
Arizona Diamondbacks 90-72 San Francisco Giants 84-78 Colorado Rockies 83-79 Los Angeles Dodgers 79-83 San Diego Padres 75-87
There you have it folks. Astros win their first pennant and their first World Championship.
